Four labourers, all residents of Cheetah camp, Trombay, were arrested for stealing bikes, the police said on Tuesday.

On December 28, the accused — Sadiq Shaikh (19), Rajesh Swami (21), Johnny Tangaswami and Rizwan Sayeed — were riding two bikes. “Their movements were dubious and we accosted them,” said Assistant Police Inspector Subhash Kokate.

The accused were unable to produce documents, the police said, adding they later confessed to having stolen the bikes, and were scouting for buyers.

“In two months, they stole six bikes from Trombay and Vashi,” said Sub-Inspector Avinash Mandale, adding that the other four bikes had also been recovered. They have been remanded in police custody till January 7.
