After the recovery of four more bodies on Wednesday from Saddal village in Pancheri block of Udhampur district, the villagers are now hopeful of retrieving all the bodies, buried under the massive landslides three weeks ago.
After the heavy machines were pressed into service, four more bodies were recovered on Wednesday at Saddal village.
The bodies recovered were identified as Jagti Devi, wife of Shaku, Makhu Devi, wife of Mohan Lal, Roshni Devi, daughter of Mohan Lal and Kaku, son of Mohan Lal.
Two bodies already recovered on Tuesday were identified as Mukhtair Singh, son of Suram Singh and Ashu Devi, daughter of Baryam. As many as 21 bodies have been recovered from mudslide so far. All the bodies recovered on Wednesday were handed over to the next of kin of the deceased for performing their last rites.
Earlier, only 13 bodies were recovered from the debris as the operation to retrieve other 27 missing persons was suspended since removing the heavy boulders was not possible manually, while the machinery could not be taken to the site due to absence of any road connectivity.
The operation was resumed only on Monday after a 2.5-km-long road link was developed and heavy excavator machines were pressed into service.
It may be recalled that 40 persons of seven families, including women and children were buried alive in the massive landslides on September 7.
With the recovery of six bodies in last two days, now the family members of the missing persons are hopeful that they would be able to perform the last rites of their loved ones.
