Four Pakistani infiltrators were on Sunday shot dead as army troops foiled a third attempt by terrorists to sneak into the Valley from across the border in over a week, a defence spokesman said.
Troops guarding the border in Baramulla district spotted a group of militants trying to sneak into this side from across the LoC at Budpathri in Gulmarg sector in the wee hours, the spokesman said.
The troops challenged the infiltrators shortly before 4 pm and in the ensuing gunbattle four terrorists were gunned down, the spokesman said.
He said four A-K assault rifles, 20 magazines, 300 rounds, a wireless set and 16 hand grenades were recovered from the possession of the slain terrorists.
The operation in the area was still continuing.
This was the third major infiltration bid by militants to intrude into the Valley from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) since June 25.
While eight terrorists were killed in an unsuccessful attempt to cross the LoC in Keran sector of Kupwara district on June 30, four more were killed in an earlier attempt in nearby Machil sector on June 25.
Security forces have intensified vigil all along the LoC in Kashmir valley following spurt in infiltration attempts by militants last month.
As many as 25 terrorists were killed in various attempts along the LoC in Kupwara district in the past two months, official sources said.
