At least 10 people were killed and four injured as a four-storeyed building under construction collapsed in the busy Narayanguda locality here on Friday afternoon.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner A.K. Khan, who had been supervising the rescue operation, said six persons were still trapped inside and efforts were on to reach them quickly. The owner of the building is absconding.
The fire brigade, the police and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation are continuing the rescue operation, but the rescuers will have to cut concrete blocks to reach the trapped people.
City Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy and Opposition leader N. Chandrababu Naidu visited the site and urged the local people to lend a helping hand in the operations.
“It’s not the right time for criticising others for the mishap.... ,” he said.
Chief Minister, K. Rosaiah, currently in Delhi, reviewed the situation on the telephone and ordered an inquiry
into the accident to fix responsibility.
