Property worth several lakhs was destroyed and 300 people were rendered homeless in separate incidents of fire across Arunachal Pradesh since Thursday.Thirty-five dwellings were reduced to ashes in a fire,which broke out in the Jote Cheda village of East Kameng district on Thursday leaving 200 people homeless.The incident occurred when the villagers were away for work in the fields.
Another fire devoured ten houses in Sangti village near Dirang in West Kameng district critically injuring one in the early hours yesterday.The injured has been identified as Rinchin Ere, who suffered severe spinal injuries and was rushed to neighbouring Assam for treatment. "The mishap occurred around 11 PM after villagers had finished their preparation of ‘khabzees’ or snacks for the upcoming Lossar festival.
Occupants could not take out anything from their houses as they were asleep and there was also no electricity at that time," Sangti Anchal Samiti Member Nima Dorjee said.The loss included cash, vehicles and food grains stored for the upcoming festival.
Meanwhile, science and technology parliamentary secretary Phurpa Tsering, who is also the local legislator, handed over one lakh in cash along with blankets, utensils and essential food items as interim relief materials while pledging support for providing cost for treatment of the injured villagers and rebuilding the houses.
