So far, the AAP has, in three lists, announced 70 candidates from 16 states in the country. Of the seven Delhi parliamentary seats, the AAP has announced nominees for five. They are: former journalists Ashutosh (Chandni Chowk) and Jarnail Singh (west Delhi), grandson of Mahatma Gandhi Raj Mohan Gandhi (east Delhi), JNU professor Anand Kumar (north-east Delhi) and social activist Mahender Singh (north-west Delhi).

The AAP is yet to announce its candidates for the remaining two Delhi seat: New Delhi and south Delhi. However, the Congress and the BJP are yet to release their first list of candidates for the seven Delhi seats. Even during the Delhi assembly elections held last year, the AAP took the lead in announcing its candidates for the 70 seats.

Overall, maximum AAP candidates announced so far come from Maharashtra (23%), followed by Madhya Pradesh (19%), Odisha (11%), Uttar Pradesh (10%), Haryana (9%) and Delhi (7%), besides other states.

“Each individual selected has for long strived for change in their immediate surrounding and it is time for them to do it in a larger group. Every candidate is set to bring fresh ideas and positive solutions to their constituencies,” the party study claimed.

“The candidates bring with them varied experiences. They include senior journalists, doctors, lawyers, artists and professionals. Never before has any party fielded such qualified and respected citizens in elections,” the study added.

Some of the candidates, who have been active in Delhi as party leaders but are contesting from other states, include: social scientist and political analyst Yogendra Yadav (Gurgaon, Haryana) and Kumar Vishwas (Amethi, Uttar Pradesh).
