48 new dengue cases, 10,142 hit

Forty-eight fresh cases of dengue has been reported in the country, taking the number of people affected with the viral disease to 10,142.

No deaths have been reported in the country for the past two days, according to the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme.

The death toll nationwide stands at 172 so far, though government has confirmed 162 deaths due to dengue in the country.

In the national capital, official figures state that 64 persons have died and 3,240 afflicted due to the mosquito-borne disease.

The reduction in the number of dengue deaths, comes after the Municipal Corporation of Delhi officials reviewed 13 suspected dengue deaths and found that these people had died of some other complications.

Last year, 157 people had succumbed to dengue, while 11,985 had been affected.

According to the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, as many as 10,142 people have been affected with dengue in the country.

"Forty-eight fresh cases were reported in the country till noon on Tuesday. Out of these total cases, four are from Delhi," the official said.

Rest of the cases have been reported from Gujarat, where 10 people were affected.

It is followed by Haryana where 20 people were afflicted and West Bengal where 12 more cases have surfaced.
