Five youths, involved in looting three automated teller machines (ATMs) in the district, have told the police that they learnt how to uproot ATMs from an internet search engine.
The crime investigation agency-1 on Tuesday evening nabbed the five accused who had uprooted ATM of the State Bank of Patiala (SBoP) in Mayyar village in the district on April 18. They were found to be involved in two more ATM loots in the district last year.

The accused were identified as Prashant Kumar, Praveen Kumar, who are brothers and residents of Dubaldhan village in Jhajjar district; Aadil, a resident of Avantipora of Jammu and Kashmir; Atul Kumar, a resident of Bas Khurd village of Hisar, and Vikas, a resident of Kungar village of Bhiwani. The accused were staying together in a rented room in sector 9-11 of Hisar.
The accused had uprooted SBoP ATM, carrying Rs 3.34 lakh in Mayyar on April 18.
Police said the accused were produced before a local court on Wednesday, which remanded them in two-day police custody.
‘Learnt from internet search engine’
Talking to HT, Hisar superintendent of police (SP) Ashwin Shenvi said, “The accused are all educated and three of them are from well-to-do families. They told the police that they learnt from an internet search engine how to uproot ATMs,”
The accused had earlier looted an ATM, carrying Rs 29 lakh from Sector-16-17 of Hisar in February last year. In June last year, they had looted an ATM of State Bank of India at Umra village in Hisar.
He said, “Prashant and Praveen, who are brothers, were the masterminds behind every loot.”

Prashant Kumar of Dubaldhan village of Jhajjar district is pursuing BSc second year and his father is already in jail for murdering his wife.

Atul Kumar, resident of Bas Khurd village of Hisar, has completed his BSc in computer science; his father is in Army, a sister works as airhostess and brother is crew member with Indigo Airlines.
Vikas, a resident of Kungar village of Bhiwani, is Class 12 pass
