5 killed, 17 hurt in road mishap

Five persons were killed and 17 others injured when a speeding truck and a jeep collided near Ashegaon-Purna village on Amravati-Paratwada state highway, some 200 kms from here in western Vidarbha today. HT reports.

Five persons were killed and 17 others injured when a speeding truck and a jeep collided near Ashegaon-Purna village on Amravati-Paratwada state highway, some 200 kms from here in western Vidarbha, on Friday.


According to reports reaching here this evening, the tragedy occurred when a passenger jeep was on its way to Paratwada from Amravati this morning. The deceased were identified as: Rizwana Parveen Sheikh, Ibrahim Khan, Sandeep More, Imran Khan and Mohd Shaquor.

According to the Amravati (rural) police control room, the driver could not control speeding truck at a sharp curve, resulting in truck’s collision with the jeep, coming from other direction. The impact was so severe that jeep was crushed and led to the deaths of five passengers on the spot.

All the injured persons were rushed to the Amravati civil hospital where three of them were reported to be critical. The truck was seized and the driver was arrested, the police said.
