In an ongoing gunfight between security forces and militants in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, 45 km north of Srinagar, five people, including one soldier, three militants and a civilian, were killed.
A police spokesman said two encounters broke out in Dardpora and Pannar forest range in Arin on Sunday. The two spots are just a few kilometers from away each other.
The gunbattles broke out when the army launched a search and cordon operation to flush out militants.
Two militants and a trooper were killed in the Pannar encounter early in the morning, said a police spokesman. One more militant was killed in the evening. A civilian has also died in Dardpora area, where the encounter was on till last reports came in. The army did not confirm the number of militants killed in the encounter when the report was filed.
