Six months ago, the district magistrate, in view of Commonwealth Games and to provide better security, had directed petrol pump owners to install CCTVs.

On Saturday, district administration team conducted raids and arrested five petrol pump managers for not installing the CCTV network.

“Despite our repeated notices several petrol pumps didn’t install the cameras. On Saturday, a raid at Devla, Udyog Vihar, Surajpur, Kasna and Suthiana petrol pumps found no CCTV cameras. The managers of these petrol pumps have been arrested,” said DSP Shailendra Lal.

“Robbery cases at petrol pumps have risen. The CCTV network can be very useful in nabbing criminals,” said Lal.

Gautam Budha Nagar Petrol Pumps Dealers Association, president, Dharamvir Singh, said, “On the association’s request, Senior Superintendent of Police A.K. Singh has given one week for installation of CCTV networks. After this period, petrol pump owners will be booked and sent to jail.”
