A 6-year-old boy fell into an open manhole on Sunday while playing in Malibu Towne. Relatives of the boy have filed a complaint against the developer and contractor for negligence at Sadar police station.
Harsh Kedia, a resident of Delhi, had come to Gurgaon on Sunday afternoon to visit his maternal uncle.
“The manhole is just 200 metres away from our house. This is not the only manhole which remains open. I have spotted around four on the road,” said Sandeep, Harsh’s uncle.
The incident happened at around 5.30pm when Harsh was playing with his brother and sister.
“Luckily, his siblings were around and they pulled him out of chest-deep water. The developer and contractor should be more responsible in such situations. We even called them to file a complaint. However, they took no immediate steps and simply said that they would look into the matter,” he added.
The matter was also reported to the police by Sandeep.
“We have received a complaint but we need to visit the spot to examine the situation we file an FIR,” said Inderjeet Singh, SHO.
The developer, on the other hand, branded the accident as sheer coincidence.
“Manhole covers received from the supplier were small in size so we sent them back for replacement. We even barricaded open manholes to avoid any accident. Somehow, one of the barricades got removed,” said SC Sharma, general manager, maintenance, Malibu Estate Private Limited.
