A 65-year-old woman was beaten to death at Atali village under Chhinsa police station in Ballabgarh on Thursday.
The family members suspect the hand of a labourer who fled with some cash after allegedly committing the murder, the police said.
The incident happened in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday in Atali village when the victim, identified as Satyawati, was sleeping in a makeshift room in the under-construction playschool of her daughter Rajbati.
The police said one of the labourers, identified as Rakesh Kumar who was also working in the building, has gone missing after the incident.
The accused, the police said, had beaten the woman to death with lathis and fled with Rs. 50,000 cash. The police said when Rajbati went to see her mother on Thursday morning, she was shocked to see her lying dead with multiple injuries.
The body was taken to BK Hospital for post-mortem. The police registered a case of murder and a massive hunt has been launched to nab the accused.
“We are investigating the case and those found involved in the murder will be arrested,” Preetpal, SHO Chhinsa, said.
