Seven Gujjar leaders, including three BJP rebel MLAs, who were arrested during the community's recent agitation for ST status, were released on Wednesday following a court's order to the Rajasthan government.

District and Sessions Court Judge R K Jain issued the release orders without seeking any bail bond and surety from the Gujjar leaders, counsel Ramkishore Gurjar said.

Jain also sought a reply from the government by June 27 on the reason the arrests were made.

Atar Singh Bhadana (suspended BJP MLA), Prahalad Gunjal (expelled BJP MLA who later joined BSP) and Madan Mohan Singhal (rebel) were arrested under preventive measures by police here during the Gujjar agitation that began on May 23.

Rajendra Bidhuri and Arjun Singh are two other prominent Gujjar leaders who got release orders.

A strong opponent of Kirori Singh Bainsla, who spearheaded the agitation, Gunjal, wanted to hold a "martyrs anniversary" at Patoli on May 29 in memory of 26 Gujjars killed in police firing in 2007 but he along with Bhadana were arrested on May 23. Singhal was arrested on May 31.

On production of the court order by their respective lawyers, the Jaipur Central Jail released all the seven leaders.

State BSP president Dharamveer Ashok and Rajasthan Karni Sena patron Lokendra Singh Kalvi had demanded that the leaders be released unconditionally as they were not accused in any criminal case related to the Gujjar agitation.
