The Delhi Police have claimed seven people were involved in the brawl that triggered the Trilokpuri riots.
Sources in the department said the police were looking for four additional suspects in the case. “After preliminary investigation, we found that two of the accused we were looking for were not involved in instigating the violence,” said a senior official.
The police department in its report to the ministry of home affairs last week had claimed that the chain of events that led to the violence began with five local youth drinking near a make-shift religious place.
The report had mentioned that the suspects had been absconding since then.
Communal riots first broke out in Trilokpuri area of East Delhi on Diwali, when reports of stone pelting started coming in. Sporadic violence had gripped the entire area forcing the authorities to impose prohibitory orders.
The chain of incidents had left more than 70 people injured, including 56 policemen.
The Delhi police have since then arrested 68 people in connection with the riots.
The recent revelation, sources said, comes after the police caught two of the suspects previously thought to be involved in the original group of instigators. “After the initial investigation, it was found that two of those previously thought to be part of the original group were not involved in the riots. However, as per the new intelligence, seven people were involved in the scuffle which resulted in the riots,” said a high ranking official.
Sources said the police had decided to book the eunuch, previously being hailed as saviour during the riots, for her involvement in the riots.
