An overloaded truck that was speeding turned turtle and landed on a cab, crushing eight of its occupants, on the busy Sohna Road on Monday.
This stretch — surrounded by swanky residential colonies, office buildings and a bustling mall strip — is fast turning into one of Gurgaon’s worst accident spots.
Last Monday, too, it witnessed a truck-autorickshaw crash that left seven persons dead and eight seriously injured.
At 8am on Monday, the truck — with a Haryana registration number and carrying a massive load of gas cylinders — lost control, hit the central verge, toppled and landed on the cab coming from the opposite side, the police said.
Seven cab passengers — including three women and a child — were killed immediately while an eighth died in hospital.
“The truck was speeding and lost balance. It was so overloaded that is turned turtle and fell on the cab,” deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Bharti Arora said.
Fourteen people, including the drivers of the truck and the cab, were injured.
The stretch sees a lot of accidents mainly due to the movement of overloaded trucks carrying construction material and heavy stones.
“We have informed the family members of the victims. A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered at Sohna police station,” a police officer said.
