8 school kids injured after auto rams bus, driver held

Nine people, including eight school girls, were injured on Wednesday morning when an auto rammed into a bus at NH-8 near Raj Nagar. Two girls and the auto driver, admitted to the civil hospital, were said to be critical. The others suffered minor injuries.

The incident took place when a bus driver overtook an auto and hit the brakes abruptly. As a result, the auto driver lost his balance and rammed into the vehicle.

"The victims were identified as Kajal, Kavita, Lalita, Kusum, Jyoti, Shakuntala, Yashmati and Deepika. The girls, in the age group of 15-17, were students of the Government Girls Senior Secondary School in Jacobpura. The 29-year-old auto driver, Ajit Kumar, was resident of Khandsa village. The condition of Kajal, Kavita and Ajit is said to be critical amid multiple injuries and," said a senior police official.

All the victims were rushed to the nearest private hospital and later the seriously injured were referred to the Gurgaon civil hospital.

The bus was coming from Manesar and the auto was on its way to the school when the speeding bus overtook and applied brakes. The auto could not stop and rammed into the bus.

The bus driver, Chander Pal, fled right after the accident. The accused, however, was arrested later in the evening and the police booked him under the IPC Sections 279 and 337. He is a native of Aligarh in UP and is working in a Manesar-based travel company.

He will be produced in a local court on Thursday, said Surinder Pal Singh, DCP (west), Gurgaon police.
