A 37-year-old doctor alleged that she was gangraped and photographed during the crime at a hotel in Nagpur last year.
The accused later used the photos to blackmail her, extorting R 6.5 lakh from her, the police said.
The police on Wednesday booked nine people, five for gang rape and four, including a self-styled godman, for blackmail and extortion.
"A team of police personnel has been sent to Amravati city, around 150 km from Nagpur, to arrest the rapists and blackmailers,” said NR Dumbelkar, the investigation officer.
The victim was allegedly raped in September 2009 after being rendered unconscious by a concoction given to her by the godman, Abdul Mannan Khan.
Tired of repeated blackmailing, the woman registered a complaint.
The woman first met Khan at her clinic in June 2008. He won her faith by assuring help in getting custody of her children following her divorce.
