Miffed over issues of ticket distribution for the Assembly polls, nine workers of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) attempted suicide in different parts of Andhra Pradesh.
Police sources quoting reports reaching the state headquarters said two party workers from Anantapur district tried to immolate themselves near the residence of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu demanding that a particular candidate not be given the party ticket, while six others tried to end their lives in Karimnagar demanding ticket for their leader.
They said the suicide bids made by the party workers included two who consumed poison, another who had slit his wrist, two others who attempted self-immolation and two who attempted to jump off a building.
The suicide attempts prompted senior leaders to tell party workers to calm their nerves, party sources said in Hyderabad, maintaining that no one was injured in the incidents on Tuesday.
Aspirants who failed to secure a ticket had confronted party floor leader in the Assembly E Rajender, who promised that justice would be done to all in the party and they had to forego certain seats because of the alliance with the TDP and the Left parties.
