Swift action by the nine-year-old daughter of a maid servant not only thwarted a robbery attempt at a house in Sector 15-I, but she also saved the life of her mother's employer on Saturday.
Two unidentified men, posing as technicians, gained entry in Suman Taneja's house on the pretext of fixing a water purifier. At around 2.45 pm, Rashmi (name changed) saw two men handcuffing Taneja with a rope.
The intruders had reportedly forgotten to bolt the door from the inside, through which Rashmi was able to see their actions. Within seconds, the girl sped and raised an alarm.
On seeing Rashmi flee, the suspects also fled, leaving Taneja writhing in pain. They also left behind their tool box.
In the meantime, Rashmi along with her mother and a few neighbours arrived at the house. The neighbours noticed the two unidentified men flee in a black car, parked at little distance from Taneja's house. A third man was already seated in the vehicle. The police was immediately informed but by the time they arrived, the intruders managed to escape.
Meanwhile, area residents were shocked following the incident. "It's unbelievable that such incidents are happening in broad daylight. How can we feel secure," said a neighbour. The police have lodged a case against unidentified persons.
