A nine-year-old boy was run over by a school bus on Friday in Borivli west.

The driver was arrested and police said he was not drunk at the time of the accident.

The incident took place around 8.30am when Bhaskar Vadari was cycling near Devidas lane.

The driver was speeding and crashed into the boy, who was tossed off the bicycle. Only the driver and a cleaner were in the bus when the incident took place.

The school bus was on its way to pick up children. The vehicle was heading towards Sudhir Phadke Bridge.

The locals caught the driver, Samit Thackeray, 23, and handed him over to the police.

Vadari was declared dead on arrival at Bhagwati Hospital.
