It’s the fashion union that’s got tongues wagging. Carma, the iconic fashion store housed in a 14th century stable is all set to re-open, at One Style Mileon the Mehrauli-Gurgaon stretch, in the last week of this month. And it’s not coming back simply as Carma, but as Sabyasachi @ Carma — a store that will sell only Sabyasachi Mukherjee merchandise.

Talking about the deal, Sabyasachi said, “I was working on having my first flagship store and when the Carma management came up with this idea of an exclusive space for me, I was overjoyed.” The store will house clothes, women’s footwear, bags and accessories and home furnishings too. “The store will be more a museum of my work,” he said.

However, in light of the fact several doyens of the Indian fashion industry started with Carma, the exclusive deal with Sabyasachi hasn’t gone down well. “Yes, I have heard that some designers who used to sell from Carma, Mehrauli are peeved but then it’s my business and the offer made by Carma made a perfect business sense,” he said. Malvika Poddar of Carma said, “He’s one of the hottest selling designers and when he agreed to this exclusivity proposal, we just signed the deal.”
