A different dilemma

It isn’t only men and women from the same gotra who aren’t allowed to marry. In Chithera village in Greater Noida, a family has been threatened that if their Bainsala boy marries the Bhatti girl, the couple would be shot dead. Reason: It is a Bhatti dominated village, reports Kapil Datta.

It isn’t only men and women from the same gotra who aren’t allowed to marry. In Chithera village in Greater Noida, a family has been threatened that if their Bainsala boy marries the Bhatti girl, the couple would be shot dead. Reason: It is a Bhatti dominated village.

The wedding is scheduled on May 15.

“The panchayat has said if we continued our wedding plan, then both the bride and bridegroom would be shot dead on the wedding day itself. They will not be allowed to enter the village and our family would be expelled,” said Net Ram Bansal, father of the boy.

“The village has seen marriages between Bainsala and Bhatti gotras. But now Panchayat said as 99% villagers are from Bhatti gotra, so a Bhatti girl can’t be accepted as bride in the village,” he added.

The family has sought police protection. “Additional force has been deployed at the village to avert any clash. On the wedding day we will deploy PAC and even NSA would be clamped against those causing law and order problem,” said DCP Rahul Kumar.

On Thursday the Panchayat declared that the bridegroom would not be allowed to hold any ceremony in the village.
