Finally, finish off with a tropical fruit bowl or crunchy churros. Well, this ain’t a Hawaiian island that we’re talking about but the city’s first Hawaiian-themed tiki bar, Bora Bora. Located at the bustling District Centre in Saket, the interiors of this place, done by the owners, brother-sister duo Nik and Nikita Khattar themselves, instantly transport you to some happy-go-lucky sandy beach. The wood-n-stone carvings, cane furniture, bamboo walls and pillars, puffer fish-shaped hanging lights and a soothing contour of indoor greens and orchids create a cozy ambience that one tends to instantly fall in love with.
Named after an island in the French Polynesia, the show stealers here are the fruity and floral drinks. A must try is the Putu Monkey, a tender coconut-based drink served in monkey face-shaped coconuts. In food, try their special Pupu Platter, the prawns, the lobsters and of course the curries with sticky rice. In fact, nothing on the menu will disappoint you as it has been crafted by the owner duo’s mom, food writer Anju Khattar. A three-course meal for two is a reasonable R1,500. The only deterrent as of now is that the place opens only after 5pm, and remains closed on Tuesdays. Nevertheless, a great place to cool off on any other day.
