Though budgetary allocations have turned out to be "way below the expectations", passengers can look forward to improved amenities and better condition of stations in the Capital, a new terminal near the Delhi airport and a revamped rail museum.

Eleven new express trains have been announced in this rail budget that will either originate or pass through the Capital.

Railway minister PK Bansal also announced a new line from Delhi to Alwar via Sohna and electrification of Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Ahmedabad line. Run and frequency of some Delhi-bound trains (see box) have also been extended. http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/Popup/2013/2/27-02-pg4a.jpg

"…to augment infrastructure and revamp the facilities at Delhi, New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin, works costing Rs. 100 crore have been taken up," the minister said.

Northern Railway's divisional railway manager (Delhi) Anurag Sachan said, "About 200 small projects had been sanctioned but they were stuck because of lack of funding. The Rs. 100-cr allocation will help complete them. With this money, we can improve the overall premises, water supply, platforms."

"I recognise the need for special attention to stations in the NCR. Studies for a terminal at Bijwasan will be taken up during the year," Bansal said in his budget speech.

He also proposed to provide a memorable experience to the visitors at the National Rail Museum in the Capital. A revamp plan will be rolled out in 2013-14.
