With an aim to cash in on the tremendous response, especially after the spectacular debut in the Delhi assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday declared to launch a nationwide membership drive from January 10.

The 17-day ‘Main Bhi Aam Aadmi’ drive will continue till January 26. The party has also decided to temporarily suspended the membership fee of Rs10 to do away with the logistics involved.

"We are encouraging people from across the country to not just enrol as members, but also exhort them to dedicate some time for the country; work for the cause of the country and clean politics," said Yogendra Yadav on the concluding day of the party’s national executive meeting.

The step to waive the membership fee was taken to do away with the cumbersome logistics, as it was becoming a huge task to maintain accounts of so many applicants. Units across the country ran out of receipt books and it was increasingly becoming a problem to keep the track of membership fees.

Gopal Rai, member of the party’s national executive, will be the in-charge of the membership drive.

"After the successful Delhi model, thousands of people want to join AAP," he said adding, apart from the online registration form, people can also download, take a printout and even photocopy the forms and hand over the filled forms at district units.
