One man who stood out among the crowd of onlookers, lawyers and the Talwar couple’s family members at the Ghaziabad court was the case investigating officer, AGL Kaul.

He was assigned the double murder case in September 2009 and headed a team of three officers.

Kaul was the one who turned the tide against the Talwars and has been under fire from the couple.

However, he went through with his investigations and filed a closure report in the case, which pointed the finger of suspicion at the couple.

He was relentlessly cross-examined during his testimonies before the court. The Talwars’ lawyers had accused him of being responsible for tampering with case property and “building up” a case against their clients during the final argument stages.

He arrived at the Ghaziabad court with his team around 10.30am and stood silently watching the happenings.

Kaul’s investigation in as many as 31 cases led to the accused being sent to prison for life, sources said.

He had been handling high-profile cases like the Nithari killings, Connaught Place shootout, Shehla Masood case, Jaggi murder case of Raipur and even terrorist cases related to Jammu and Kashmir.
