After the court held the Talwars guilty of the murder of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj, not a leaf stirred in L-block of Jalvayu Vihar where the murders took place over five years ago.
Most residents preferred to stay indoors. A few were, however, more forthcoming. “It is a clear case of honour killing. I have never been so close to the family but I always believed her parents were behind the killing,” said Jaikishan, a resident of N-block.
But some spoke in their favour. “How can any parent kill their own child? I am not satisfied with the decision. We always thought the servants did it,” said Sneh, a resident of M-block.
Former principal of DPS, Noida, Nina Sehgal, who was Aarushi’s teacher then, didn’t comment on the court’s decision. “Aarushi was a wonderful person. I don’t want to comment on the court’s decision. But I still don’t believe that a girl like her would be involved in any relationship with Hemraj,” she said.
Aarushi’s classmates, however, expressed shocked at the order. Manini Mathur, Aarushi’s classmate, said, “I met her parents on several occasions. They can never do such thing. Aarushi was very close to her mother. How can they kill their own daughter?”
Another close friend Fiza Jha said, “Her parents loved her. I know them very well. I am very disappointed with the verdict.”
