The Noida Police on Tuesday took Rajesh Talwar, accused of killing his teenage daughter and domestic help, into three days custody. Police said they would now look to gather evidence to back up their story of how the dentist murdered Aarushi and Hemraj in a fit of rage on May 16.
Police told Noida’s Chief Judicial Magistrate AK Singh that Talwar has confessed to carrying out the double murder since Aarushi was threatening to expose his extramarital relationship with colleague Anita Durani.“She threatened to tell her grandparents about it. Talwar has told interrogators he would help them in recovering the murder weapon,” said Senior Prosecution Officer PC Srivastava.
Talwar, who was forced to argue his case because of a strike by lawyers supporting the Gujjar agitation, said he hadn’t made any such confession. His brother Dinesh told journalists, “The police have arrested him under immense pressure that piled up after the initial lapses.”
The Talwar family has now demanded a CBI probe. “We strongly fear and apprehend Rajesh Talwar’s well being,” said the Talwars’ lawyer Pinaki Mishra.
Noida Police had egg on its face on Tuesday when lawyers broke a rather flimsy security cordon at the district court and thrashed Talwar’s relatives— Ajay Chadha and Sameer Chitnis— and his lawyer Mahinder Pratap Singh.
