AC rail travel between metros to get costlier by min Rs 140

Your rail travel by AC coaches from the national capital to Mumbai, Kolkata or Chennai, will become costlier by at least Rs 140 with the railway minister Dinesh Trivedi announcing a steep rise in passenger tariff.

Fares between Delhi and Mumbai trains will increase by a minimum Rs 140 by AC 3-tier.

Likewise,the fares from New Delhi to the 'City of Joy' Kolkata will rise from Rs 1,088 to Rs 1,235, starting next month. And travel between Delhi and Chennai would become dearer by Rs 221 in AC 3-tier.

The Rajdhani fares on the Howrah-New Delhi route have been proposed at Rs 1,475 from existing Rs 1,328 and on the Mumbai Central-New Delhi route at Rs 1,440 from Rs 1,302.

In the long distance second class (sleeper), passenger has to pay a minimum increase of Rs 72.

Not only the metropolitan cities, train fares from the national capital to the tier-I and tier-II cities will also see an upward movement.

The new rates will be effective from April 1. The passenger fares, particularly in the second class, have been increased almost after a decade.
