Upset over an incest charge, a father-daughter duo on Monday allegedly shot two persons dead in western Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnore district. Four other persons were injured in the shooting.
Eighteen-year-old Fatima loaded a country-made gun to assist her father Akhtar, 45, an agricultural labourer, shoot 55-year-old Hasimuddin and his brother Rashid, 35, in Kam-bhaur village, 150 km northeast of Delhi, police said.
Hasimuddin and Rashid, both marginal farmers, had accused the father and daughter of an illicit relationship. A panchayat held to hear the matter in August, however, had absolved Fatima and Akhtar of the charges.
Embarrassed by the false allegation, Akhtar sold off his village home last month and moved out with his family.
On Monday, at around 7.30 am, the two barged into Hasimuddin’s house and killed him and his brother Rashid. The two were sitting in the courtyard after morning prayers.
Hasimuddin’s 16-year-old daughter Shaheen and two others — Sharif, 50, and Sharif’s brother Shafeeq, 55 — injured in the firing, were taken to the district hospital, where their condition was said to be safe.
“Akhtar fired at them while Fatima helped him load the 315-bore country-made pistol,” circle officer of the city area Shreesh Chand told HT. The duo is absconding.
