Acer plans to target smaller towns

Acer, one of the world’s largest computer makers, sees huge potential in smaller towns of India and expects as much as 50% of PC sales coming from cities other than the country’s top 76 cities by 2013.

As part of it “Outreach” programme, Acer has already established its presence in 704 towns with about 4,000 Acer Galleries.

“We said, ‘Lets go to hinterland and have a slightly different go to market strategy unlike the conventional one,’” said S Rajendran, CMO, Acer India. By the end of the year, Acer aims to enter 1,000 towns.

The company says back in 2008, during slowdown, it had focused on segments namely — BFSI (banking and financial services industry), education and even larger corporates.

“We also took cognisance of the IT purchases in smaller towns, which pertains to the consumer space. That has shaped up quite well,” Rajendran said.
