THE RESPONSE time to waterlogging complaint should not exceed 30 minutes, district magistrate Ramendra Tripathi told the LMC at a crucial meeting on Friday.

“Funds are no problems. Just buy as many pumps as required. But provide relief to waterlogged residents,” he said and expressed concern on the magnitude of waterlogging in the city. He directed the LMC’s engineering wing to act on every complaint of water logging which the LMC control room receives. He demanded a daily action report from and directed ACMs to work in close coordination to deal with the waterlogging menace.

“Handling waterlogging is not enough. The LMC bosses should be ready to deal with the post-waterlogging health hazards in terms of epidemics,” he said. There should be a follow-up sanitation drive to keep the waterlogged colonies disease-free, he added and directed them to carry out speedy repair works to avoid accidents in the flooded areas.  Municipal commissioner Ram Bodh Maurya assured the district magistrate of full coordination with the district administration.  The meeting lasted for over three hours in which decision of shifting the residents in the waterlogged areas was taken.

The LMC has formed teams in all the six zones to deal with the problem.
Meanwhile, the LMC purchased two additional pumps to siphon off water from Campbell Road Prem Nagar, Mari Mata Mandir, Balaganj, Kishore Nagar, Ram Nagar , Tehseenganj localities.  Nearly 12 other pumps are pressed into service in these areas. The municipal commissioner has ordered cleaning of non-serviced areas not under the control of LMC presently.  “The decision has been taken to avoid cases of epidemic spread. We don’t want to take any chances,” said Maurya. All senior officials of the district administration, including all the SDMs, ACMs etc were present in the meeting.
