He asked the officials of NGO Child Line to organise awareness campaigns in various parts of the district to aware the masses about the rights of children.
He said child protection was a major issue and it was the duty of every citizen to protect the rights of children.
He said the district administration would cooperate with the NGO and offenders would not be spared.
Child Line Manali City coordinator Shalini Vatas Kimta said “Child Line has protected near about 40 children in the district, who were engaged illegally in child labour in various places of district. The number of child labourers is high at famous tourist spots in Manali.”
She said there was lack of shelter home in the district, which hampered the rescue work and mad rehabilitation of protected children difficult.
Child line officials alleged that in most of the cases, the offenders were not punished, which encouraged them to engage more child labour in the district.
