Activist groups stage sit-in

SEVERAL ACTIVIST groups held a one-day sit-in here today to express their solidarity with the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) and Bhopal gas victims, currently holding agitation in Delhi to press for acceptance of their demands.

SEVERAL ACTIVIST groups held a one-day sit-in here today to express their solidarity with the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) and Bhopal gas victims, currently holding agitation in Delhi to press for acceptance of their demands.

All the groups, who participated in dharna in Bhopal, were unequivocal in their support to both these agitations, condemning at the same time Government’s callousness towards their demands.

The NBA activists led by Medha Patkar are holding agitation in Delhi demanding halt to further construction of Sardar Sarovar dam till the oustees are properly rehabilitated while NGOs working among the gas victims have resorted to the agitation demanding clean drinking water for residents in areas adjacent to Union Carbide, participation of gas victims in deciding the design for Bhopal gas memorial and comprehensive rehabilitation of gas victims.         

The groups which participated in the dharna in Bhopal today are Madhya Pradesh Mahila Manch, All India Peoples’ Science Network, Eklavya, Sanskritik Morcha, Janvadi Lekhak Sangh, Pragatisheel Lekhak Sangh, Tulika, Samvad, Samata, MPBGVS, MPVS, Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Purush Sangharsh Morcha, Bhopal Ki Awaz, Bhopal Group for Information & Action, Sambhavana Trust and NFIW.
