Young people must come out to vote and join politics if the country is to get rid of criminal parliamentarians and ministers, veteran actor Om Puri said in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
Puri, the doyen of new wave cinema in the country, was here to campaign for Independent candidate Mallika Sarabhai, from the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency who is pitted against BJP's prime ministerial candidate LK Advani.
"We must choose people carefully as 30 per cent of the parliamentarians are criminals," the actor alleged.
On campaigning for Mallika, he said, that coming from an illustrious family, the danseuse represented change in politics.
"She is a brave, vocal and a qualified person. She was at pain when the 2002 Godhra riots erupted," he said, adding, its high time we had qualified people who can represent us and solve our problems.
Puri said that this is for the second time he is campaigning in election for any candidate.
"Earlier, I had campaigned for a Congress candidate in my native state in Punjab," he added.
