Maoist terrorism is nothing but the eruption of the lava of people's impatience with the politicians who make a lot of promises but fall short of fulfilling them. While at the time of the polls, these leaders touch the feet of the people and beg them to give the former their votes, soon after the elections, they become the masters and very few of their voters can meet them as they are heavily guarded.
Politicians make such false promises like selling rice at Rs 2 kg at ration shops, enforcing prohibition, giving free electricity to the farmers, etc. all of which lead to the burden on the public exchequer apart from the lunches and tours enjoyed by those who come to power. Soon, the politicians who had come to power on false promises realise that they cannot fulfill their promises and the people feel cheated. The politicians announce a number of welfare schemes for the poor and the downtrodden but the benefits never reach their targets and most of the funds are cornered by the politicians and the bureaucrats.
Since all the political parties irrespective of their policies, make such assurances which they can never fulfill or which they never intend fulfilling, the result is that those among the poor who are educated and intelligent, get fed up with all the political parties and the result is nothing but Maoist terrorism.
The only way to check Maoist terrorism is to implement economic reforms seriously, cut down non-developmental expenditure on lunches, tours of ministers and bureaucrats and salaries of surplus government staff, have disinvestment in public undertakings, treat agriculture as an industry and desist from making false promises to the public.
