The tall claims of forest department, to make the city green this year have fallen flat. Various departments of the district have not even planted a single sapling despite repeated requests by the forest department. The department has decided to take up the issue with higher authorities.
Earlier this year, targets were set for each department to plant trees. But most of the departments have not even initiated the campaign. Though the forest department is set to raise the issue with the deputy commissioner, departments have different stories to tell.
The forest department earlier this year, decided to sell each sapling for R1. But nobody turned up to buy. Then it was decided to distribute the saplings free of cost. Though some departments turned up, but still the target has not been reached besides, some have not even planted a single sapling.
According to BS Rana, additional district forest officer, “The campaign was initiated to make the city green, but it is sad that some departments have not taken the project seriously”. While talking about the issue, Dr Praveen Garg, chief medical officer (CMO) said, “I love green environment but nobody informed that we have to plant saplings. If we would have been informed, then we would have planted.” He said, “We are planting trees in the civil hospital and our community health centre workers are working on it.”
