The ruling BJP in Uttarakhand has requested the Election Commission to advance the date of the Lok Sabha polls in the state in view of the Chardham pilgrimage.
The one-day polling in the state is slated for May 13.
In a letter to the Election Commission, state BJP chief Bachi Singh Rawat on Monday urged it to advance the date in view of the annual Chardham Yatra.
The pilgrimage to Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri, known as Chardham Yatra, will commence in April-end.
Rawat suggested to the EC to advance the date before April 30 when portals of the Kedarnath shrine would be thrown open.
