Leader of opposition L K Advani is ready to don the mantle of a mentor as desired by the RSS.

He will go ahead with his tour across the country from September 15 — for a ‘talent hunt’ within the BJP ranks.

The decision follows an understanding reached between him and the RSS recently to let him oversee the transition in the party before his retirement.

He will also play a key role in deciding who heads the BJP when Rajnath Singh’s term gets over.

In tune with the RSS’s thinking, Advani has already said he will consult other leaders about finding a successor to Rajnath, from not just among Delhi-based leaders but also in the states.

Advani does not want to call his tour another ‘yatra’. He will spend more time interacting with state-level leaders this time. And there will be no public meetings or rallies.

He had announced his talent hunt plans when he took over as leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, reversing his earlier decision to call it a day after the Lok Sabha poll debacle.
