A woman of African descent, who lives at a rented accommodation in Hauz Rani locality in south Delhi, has alleged that she was gang raped by two men at her house on Friday morning.
Tension gripped the locality when scores of African people assembled there to protest and demand the arrest of two unidentified men who allegedly posed as cloth sellers to enter the house of the victim.
Police said the woman alleged that she was gang-raped by two cloth-sellers who forcibly entered her house at around 11 am when she was alone at her flat.
On the basis of her complaint, a case of gang rape was registered against unknown persons at the Malviya Nagar police station. The police said the preliminary investigation revealed discrepancies in the woman’s statement. Police said they scanned some CCTV cameras installed near the woman’s flat but did not see anybody entering her flat during the period when the woman claimed the incident took place.
A senior police officer said they had questioned several people in the locality but nobody claimed that they had seen any man entering the woman’s flat. “We recorded the statement of the woman and her friend separately. The analysis of their statements revealed that their versions were contradictory. Her friend claimed she was at Safdarjung Hospital but her phone call details revealed that she was at Hauz Rani at that time,” said the officer.
When the police questioned the woman’s landlord, he told them that the woman had been threatening him and his family members to implicate them in false cases if they asked them to pay house rent or pressured them to vacate the flat.
The police were trying to find out which country the woman belongs to and were verifying her documents.
According to the woman’s complaint, she was alone in her room and her friend had gone to Safdarjung Hospital when two men, posing as cloth sellers, forcibly entered her room and forced themselves upon her. The woman’s medical examination report is awaited.
