After Greater Noida, the focus of Delhi Metro’s expansion plans will shift to Sector 62 in Noida. The service is expected to be a boon for thousands of people who commute within the city and to Ghaziabad. The line will provide an accessible link to NH-24 as well. The highway separates the two cities in UP.
“Yes, the plan is definitely on. We will get cracking after the Greater Noida project takes shape,” Noida authority deputy chief executive officer Chandra Bhushan Singh said.
“Also, out of the 22 stations on the Greater Noida line, 13 will cater to residents of sectors 39, 49, 50, 82 and 93,” he added.
The alternative mode of transport will provide a link to IGI Airport for Ghaziabad residents. “Such commuters, instead of facing jams on NH 24, can come to Sector 32 via Sector 62 and use the existing service to reach Dwarka Sector 21. The airport link will be available from there,” an officer said.
Also, when the soon-to-be-operational Vaishali station will be extended to Shipra Sun City, not far from Sector 62, both lines can be linked.
So, what is the status of the plan? “Noida authority had a meeting with DMRC officials sometime back. We had asked for their consent. They have agreed to the plan in principal,” the DCEO said.
“The matter was slated for a discussion in a board meeting. It could not take place, though we are hopeful for progress.”
The Sector 62 plan was supposed to be executed before the Greater Noida line. “It could not be done due to revenue viability issues,” an official said.
