After IAS officer, SP leader wants DM to be punished too

Samajwadi Party leader Narendra Bhati who claims to have got IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal suspended wants Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate Ravikant Singh to be “punished” as well for defending her.

“I have come to know that DM in his report claimed Nagpal did not demolish any religious building wall, which is untrue and not based on facts,” Bhati, chairperson of the UP State Agro Industrial Corporation Limited, said on Thursday.

“The UP government has appointed a probe committee to look into DM’s report. The committee will go to Kadalpur village to gather facts and verify the DM’s report.”

The Gurjar leader, who enjoys cabinet minister rank as the chairperson of the agriculture body, has already been declared as the SP candidate from Gautam Budh Nagar parliamentary seat for the next general elections.

“The DM should be punished for a false report. The UP government will not hesitate in taking stern action against the DM, who is equally responsible for demolition of the wall like suspended IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal. Nagpal demolished the wall on the DM’s orders,” he said.

“The day Nagpal reached at the site, I was talking to DM Ravikant Singh and SSP Pritender Singh on the mobile phone. They promised that only construction of the mosque would be stopped, nothing more. But on the contrary, the DM ordered demolition of the wall. Therefore, the DM should be punished for his action,” Bhati added.

Kadalpur villagers, meanwhile, claimed they had demolished the mosque wall in the presence of Nagpal and the police.

“She came with a fire tender, the police force and asked us to demolish the wall. When we resisted, she said, ‘I will not go until you demolish this wall’. Then we had to push that newly built wall, which fell down with a slight push,” said Kadalpur resident Tofiq Ali.

The DM could not be reached for comment despite repeated attempts.
