The family of Joginder Mander, South Asian man, who is missing since Monday, is desperately pleading for information on his mysterious disappearance.

Mander, 64, an active member of the B.C. NDP party, hasn’t been seen or heard from since early Monday morning.

He was last seen by his daughters leaving their Surrey home near 93 Ave and 164 St around 2:30 am. He left his wallet and cellphone behind.

According to nephew Narinder Mander, leaving home in the wee hours of the morning is not entirely unusual for the man, who could have left to walk the dog, or to help a family member in need.

"He’s the head of the family, the one that controls everything — the whole family. The decisions that we make all go through him. But for him to leave without a trace is pretty abnormal", said Narinder.

Narinder and many other family members have spent the week endlessly searching for Mander, a beloved uncle, brother and father.

Search and rescue teams were called out on Friday and Saturday and Surrey RCMP sent out a second appeal to the public in the case.

“One of the first things we look at (in a missing persons case) is has this person gone missing in the past?” explained Cpl Bert Paquet with Surrey RCMP. “In this case it’s definitely not a pattern.”

“We are concerned because he has never gone missing before and this is out of his usual behaviour, so because of that it raises the focus of our investigation for sure”, he added.

For Narinder and the rest of the family, it is been an “emotional, up and down” week, but they plan to continue their search, while asking for all the help they can get.

“If anybody knows his whereabouts, or if anybody even talked to him that day …” said Narinder.

Mander was last seen wearing a black hoodie, a white T-shirt and dark track pants. He’s described as a 64-year-old South Asian man, 5’8 and weighing 170 lbs. He has brown eyes and grey hair.

Anyone with information is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, 911, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, quoting the file number 2013-133006.
