A 45-year-old contractor allegedly killed his second wife by setting her afire, after an argument, inside his house at the Siwaya area of Dhaulana in Ghaziabad on Friday, police said.
Police investigations also revealed that the accused had allegedly killed his first wife in the same manner a decade ago. According to police, Veer Singh Jatav married Kusum Jatav 10 years ago and had frequent altercations with her over selling a piece of land.
Late Thursday night, Jatav allegedly poured kerosene over his wife and set her afire, superintendent of police (Rural) M.M. Baig said.
A murder case has been lodged against the accused by the victim’s brother, Phool Singh, at the Dhaulana police station on Friday.
“My sister frequently complained to us that things were not cordial between them. They had frequent altercations and their married life was not smooth,” Singh alleged.
However, before the police could take action, the accused fled the spot and could not be apprehended till late Friday evening. Baig revealed that the same man had allegedly murdered his first in the same manner a decade back.
“His first marriage was to another woman and she was also set afire by the accused in the same manner. We are making investigations into that case to find out the exact details. The man seems to be of a criminal mentality,” Baig said.
