A day after public disapproval by NCP chief Sharad Pawar on his controversial remarks, Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar has undertaken one-day 'atmaklesha' (penance).
In a surprise move, Pawar junior, accompanied by a few selected supporters reached at 'samadhi' of former Maharashtra chief minister Yeshvantrao Chavan at Karad where he sat on one-day fast on Sunday morning.
"This is not a publicity stunt. I really mean it and all politicians should speak with responsibility", Ajit Pawar said. In a surprise move, Pawar, who was in Mumbai, decided to go to Karad, minutes after Sharad Pawar expressed his displeasure in strong words about Ajit Pawar's remarks.
His visit to Karad was kept highly guarded secret. Karad, also happens to b home town of Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan.
Pawar's decision seem to be an attempt to pacify opposition parties, which have stalled House proceedings for three days. House is resumed to its work on Monday.
Tough stand taken by Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar on the issue, has even sent strong signal to NCP cadre that he would not tolerate such statements. Pawar is expected to talk to media sometime in the evening on Sunday after his exercise of self penance is over.
