Agitated over the death of a five-year-old boy in a road accident, protesters on Tuesday blocked the main road, burnt tyres and indulged in stone-pelting here, prompting the police to baton-charge them.

The boy Sona Baba was killed when he was hit by a speeding truck while crossing the road this morning, SP (Nalanda) Jitendra Rana said.

As the news of his death spread, angry locals blocked the road demanding action against the culprit and adequate compensation to the victim's family, Rana said.

Police had to resort to lathicharge for dispersing the protesters who had refused to budge even after repeated persuasion to lift the blockade, he added.
