Security has been beefed up throughout Tripura and an alert has been sounded along the 856-km-long porous state border to keep the Republic Day celebrations peaceful, police said on Sunday.

"All police stations and check posts along the Indo-Bangla international border and Agartala Airport were put under maximum alert," DIG (Police Control) Nepal Das said.

"Deployment of security forces have been made at railway stations, motor stands, markets and crowded places. Patrolling has been intensified in the highways and insurgency-hit remote areas," Das told PTI.

Dog squads and bomb squads were pressed into service in all towns.

Regular checkings are being made in the vehicles entering into the towns and hotels are also under observation of the security forces, he said.

The state police is in constant touch with BSF posted in border areas, who have also intensified their vigil and stepped up patrolling so that no one could sneak into the Indian territory from other side of the border, Das said.
