Ahmad Sher Khan Hockey: Namdhari taste first defeat

IN A major upset on Friday, SAI Centre of Excellence Bhopal defeated the dominating Namdhari XI in the ongoing All India Ahmad Sher Khan Hockey Tournament at SAI Centre, Bishenkheri.

In other matches, Day Boarding Bhopal defeated Bhopal Junior and Raurkela ousted Karampur Academy. Before this defeat, Namdhari XI was on a winning spree in the tournament. Against Centre of Excellence Bhopal, the team of Namdhari looked weak and unimpressive from the beginning of the match. The team that had never allowed opponents to open the account conceded first goal in the 14th minute.

Anil Soni of Bhopal sounded the board by a beautiful field goal. Dilbagh Singh of Namdhari, however, equalised the score in the 21st minute.

The attacks and counter-attacks from both teams continued for next 20 minutes. After 37 minutes of the match, both teams scored two goals.

In the second half, Namdhari stumbled as the team gave opportunities to the opponents. Capitalising on this, Centre of Excellence Bhopal consolidated the score by scoring two goals.

After having 4-2 lead, Bhopal team maintained the score till the end. Bhopal won the match 4-2. Day Boarding Bhopal convincingly thumped Bhopal   junior by 4-0 in the second match of the day. Razik, Azam, Mohsin and Shakir were the scorers.

Raurkela that had a bad day on Thursday registered one-side win against Karampur Academy on Friday. Raurkela won the match 3-0.
