Ahmedabad police on Saturday arrested an alleged bookie, involved in T20 betting that is deeply entrenched in Gujarat. The police recovered Rs 1.28 crore cash and one kg gold from Vinod Mulchandani, who has been arrested by Ahmedabad crime branch.

"We have arrested Vinod Mulchandani in connection with T20 betting," Crime branch joint police commissioner AK Sharma told media. Sharma added that his agency was probing further and there may be a few more arrests in the case.

The cricket betting syndicates apparently have very wide network in Gujarat where several places like Rajkot, Palanpur, Bhavnagar, Surat and Mehsana are considered As main hubs for betting activities.

Several bookies arrested by Mumbai and Delhi police in connection with the scandal, which is deepening day by day, are originally from Gujarat.

Following the exposé by the Mumbai and Delhi police, the Gujarat government had instructed its police force to crack down on the bookies and betting operators who are typically well connected and have "good contacts" in the police.

The bookies' police connection was apparently the reason the Gujarat police was kept in dark by their counterparts of Mumbai and Delhi when they busted the nationwide betting racket involving bookies and players.
